Paint them, gild them, shabby them, wax them. You can treat them as you would any other decorative timber piece. 

To apply, give the onlay a good dose of Gorilla Grip, Kwik Grip or any other quick grab, strong hold adhesive. Clamp the onlay for 24 hours to allow the glue to dry hard. That's it!  Something so simple and so easy, can make a HUGE difference to your furniture piece.
